The Great Hall
OF Chaumburgh Castle

As was true during the middle ages, the castle served as the focal point of the town and the great hall was the focal point of the castle. The great hall served as the center for meetings, gathering, feasting and entertaining. Therefore, here you will find the basic information on the Shire of Vanished Wood.

Moot

MootEvery month, the freemen of a shire gather together to hold a moot where they conduct the business of the shire and engage in lively disccussion.. Meetings are held on a Sunday at the home of one of the members, starting at 6:00-6:30 pm with a potluck meal and usually ending a couple of hours later. Meetings are not held in garb.

Moots are a great opportunity for any interested parties to chat with shire members, and to ask any questions they have concerning the SCA. Our meeting are informal, and we welcome all visitors with open arms and a glass of wine.

If you would like to attend the next shire moot, then please drop an email to the Seneschal or the member hosting the moot.

The following moots are currently scheduled:

Sewing Guild

The Vanished Wood Sewing Guild meets every two weeks to work on...well...sewing projects.

Arts and Science Night

FightersLord Meurig and Lady Onnen are host an Arts and Science Night every Wednesday evening. So if there is sewing to be done, chainmail rings to be linked, or parchment to be illuminated, then come and join us. There is plenty of space if we all hold our breath; we have sturdy tables, we have fun! We have a sewing machine to loan fix. We also tend to have rather interesting discussions.

This is a laid back evening intended to encourage all A&S projects that can be worked on in our home. We are not experts, but we are great cheerleaders! This is a great opportunity to set aside time to work on those things that you want to get done but are having trouble with in terms of motivation and/or setting aside time. If you are looking for a project to start, we even might have the resources to get you started. Children are welcome - we have two little ones who love to play. Our cat and two small dogs will be sequestered.

Ayreton Fighter Practice

FightersThe Province of Tree Girt Sea, Shire of Grey Gargoyles and Shire of Vanished Woods all officially practice at the Grey Gargoyles site every Sunday of the month. We call this the Ayreton Fighter Practice. Practices have been starting at 1pm

If you are interested in participating in SCA combat, or are just curious, then this is a good opportununity to witness the fighters of Ayreton in action. You will find that all combatants are passionate about their fighting, and are always open to explaining what SCA martial arts is all about, the weapons they use, the armour they wear, and the safety measures that are in place.
